Some people may spend Parent’s Day every July by simply visiting their folks, sharing good meals and catching up or going on family trips but there are other creative ways of celebrating this wonderful occasion. Others complain about their busy schedule and not being able to give their parents enough time so human resources of some companies come up with fun family activities for their employees.
How it Works
Some companies allow a few hours of their usual work schedule in the office to celebrate Parents’ Day. A small party may be organized and employees who are parents are being acknowledged and given gifts. Other companies allow their employees to bring their parents to join the special gathering too. For a few hours, there may be games and fun video presentations for parents.
In other big companies such as LinkedIn and Google, it is fast becoming a part of HR practices to organize a “Bring Your Parents to Work Day” during Parent’s Day. During this occasion, parents of employees are allowed to visit their office.
Some of the managers give a small talk to explain how their kids are doing at work, what significant contributions they have made in the company, how they get along with their bosses and co-workers, and what exactly it is that their job in the company entails and how important it is in the society. An office tour may also be done wherein the parents may see not just the office facilities but also their kids’ workspaces.
Benefits of Celebrating Parent’s Day
A study conducted in the past reveals that one in three parents, especially those who have kids who are considered millennials, are clueless about their kids’ jobs and what they really do for a living. It was discovered through a survey that 25% of employees heed their parents’ advice when it comes to their careers. And, 50% of these parents believe they can give better suggestions if they understood certain details about their kids’ jobs. Human resources of several companies recommended “Bring Your Parents to Work Day” and made it an annual event.
Special activities done in workplaces during Parent’s Day have so many benefits not just for the company but also to their employees and their families. Not only will it strengthen family bonds but also, employees will feel more connected and appreciated by the company or organization they work for.
It will also create a good atmosphere at work as it promotes work-life balance. Parent’s Day in offices becomes a breather to employees who hustle day in and day out on normal work days. It will serve as a good break for them as they create and enjoy new memories with the most important people in their lives – their parents.
Aside from the mentioned recommendations in this article, you can create your own Parent’s Day activities in your workplace. You can start a survey and ask around. From there, you can device more creative activities that will be fun for everyone, especially parents.
